Title: Robbed!
Dusk was falling as the Dwarven caravan neared the western edge of Mirkwood after a long and difficult journey (snow, mud, fallen trees ... you name it!). Spirits rose at the thought of seeing the last of all these dratted trees - but too soon. It was when the heaviest wagon became bogged down in the mud that they struck. Who? Why, orcs! Big ones, ugly ones - least the ones I saw were. The rest of them were skulking in those damn trees, I heard them chittering up above like a nest of squirrels.
Anyway, quick as you could say 'axe' we were swinging them - and hammers, picks, swords too ... you name it. There's no better exercise than knocking off goblin heads! GLOIN had an axe to hand and I saw him trying his luck with it against one particularly misshapen brute. I can say this - our tavern proprietor would not make the best woodcutter. Or perhaps his joints were just particularly stiff. OSKAR forsook his usual ladle for a hammer, and might have done all right if he hadn't been so busy shouting instructions to his apprentice. I, of course, slew a full half-dozen orcs - what do you mean, how do I know it wasn't the same tree half a dozen times? Just because it was dark, there's no need to get cheeky with me.
In the confusion the mired wagon got toppled and in the end we had to leave it to get the caravan out of the forest before full night. Oh, we went back come morning, of course, but our goods were gone: two chests /and/ some bolts of cloth. Can you imagine the orcs making fancy in those? Anyway, there's a few tempers frayed and a lot of blame-passing going on. Didn't we go on this trip to find treasure, not to lose it?
(OOC: Many thanks to our Orcish cast: BLUYAK and GUNNK (Isengard) and TOLO (Moria))
