Bundazanul

The Bundazanul are a very old clan. Deep delvers on a time, their miners were digging with their Barazin comrades on the fateful day they broke through into a chamber black as death and filled with the terror of the Balrog. Many of their kin were lost, then and after, sending their valiant warriors against the demon. To this day, their taste for mining has never been rekindled, and after Khazad-dum's fall, in the long years of the Exile, they found other pursuits to sustain them. Turning from stone to wood during the Exile, they became expert hewers and carvers of that vital if underappreciated resource, and their current controlling interest in the trade with the Woodmen of Rhovanion reflects this. Mines they still have stakes in, a shadow of their old rivalry with the Barazin, and other crafts and arts.

The Bundazanul clan also has extensive business relationships outside the Mountain, their merchants, crafters, and smiths travelling to those places where the largest brokerage firm of Erebor, Bundazanul and Others (B.A.O., which belongs to the clan), has dealings. After the eldest family's Thane and son were both killed at the Battle of Azanulbizar (curse Azog's name forever!), the clan elders, instead of accepting the eldest of their number as a new Thane, instituted a unique rule wherein the clan would vote at a yearly 'thing' for a new Thane from among the clan's families. Many question the wisdom of this rule, as a string of recent Thanes have set the clan's fortunes in precarious balance with somewhat reckless trading ventures.

Clan Device

The field (background) of emblems sporting the device of the Bundazanul is gold, unadorned. Upon this will be emblazoned a circle of emerald green with a wood-grain border. Within the circle is an upright axe of silver, blade flush left. Cirth runes are "burnt" into the woodgrain border spelling the name of the House. Metallic mediums besides gold may forgo the field. Flags bearing this device will be long and swallow-tailed.
