By the gate to the city stand two guards, both looking amused and, oddly enough, partaking in some local gossip. The first, not taking a care to lower his voice says over the noise of people. "My wife was workin' at tha hall, came home with a tale! Told me it was that Warden THORALD's birthday, bunch of men be celebratin' that!"

The other shrugs. "So? We all got them birthdays doesn' make his any different."

"It sure does," Says the first. "Wife was tellin' me that Steward, ORIANA, of Karath, came walking in and gave him about the best present a unwed man could get!"

Well now the second man perks up, asking with a wave of his hand for the first to continue, and so he does. "Wife says she saw them kissin'! Right and proper do none of that proper noble junk you see them doin', that they were all cozy like. He was even sharin' his drink! His -drink-. If you're askin' me, that'd be somethin'!"

The second man snaps his fingers. "Damn it, I was workin' up the courage to talk to her! Ah well, never was gonna happen anyway I ain't no noble. So the two are gettin' on then? Well I'll be.."

The first nods. "I'd think so, or so my wife be thinkin' it anyway. Why else would you be makin' eyes and kissin' in public? Unless he was dared to for a pretty penny, or a lot, given how well she can hit."

The two then go about their chattering, loudly as the locals hear it while going about their days.
