	This is a land that has sprung up from the former Desolation of Smaug, and now thrives in the wake of the [[Smaug the Golden\|Golden Dragon]]'s demise. The kingdom itself rests between the dark eaves of [[Mirkwood]] and the rolling wastes of [[Rhun]]; flanked by the [[Long Lake]] to the east and by the [[The Lonely Mountain\|Lonely Mountain]] to the north. 	Many [[Towns in the Dale-lands\|townships]] comprise the kingdom, from [[Towns in the Dale-lands#Esgaroth\|Esgaroth]] upon the shores of the Long Lake to the fair city of [[Towns in the Dale-lands#Dale\|Dale]] itself, nestled within the foothills of the majestic Lonely Mountain. Due to the closeness of the great forest of Mirkwood, the men of the Dale-lands (known also as Bardings) share friendship with the [[:Category:Amon Thranduil\|Elves]] that dwell within it, and also the [[Dwarves]] of mighty [[The Lonely Mountain\|Erebor]]; the kingdom within the Mountain.
